A welcome return from Shropshire’s Peter Steele, this time with his take on a long forgotten gem by the late Jon Vesta, entitled ‘Gull’. As well as generating sparks of reminiscence amongst trance fans of a ‘certain age’, the melodies of ‘Gull’ hark back to a time when trance records contained more than one ‘part’ – and were constructed around something other than a mammoth breakdown. Sure, there is a break, but it serves a real purpose as opposed to being obligatory. Peter Steele’s interpretation of this glorious record certainly does Jon Vesta’s memory justice, all those wonderful string stabs are elegantly present, as are the feelings of pure, unbounced joy upon listening.
