A man of several musical personalities, New York’s Mike Saint-Jules currently has something of a flare for this emerging spacious and gentle sound. Delving down even deeper than his famed ‘Interstellar’ mixes (which are themselves a step back from his main output) Parachuting is a lesson in how to take things deep without sacrificing musical beauty for beard-stroking self-indulgent studio noodling. Inventive percussion and a nicely executed bass line lay the foundation upon which diminished chords, hypnotic drones and intelligent sound-design are assembled. An unusual 3/4-arpeggiator sequence really sucks the listener in, paving the way for the lushest of lush choir & muted keys layered breakdowns – where we are lucky enough to be treated to some Balearic rolling breaks. A veritable audible feast.
