Famed for his penchant for avoiding genre stereotypes, this is Vadim Zhukov’s latest EP consisting of Nightwaves and Perun’s Dream. 126bpm Title track ‘Nightwaves’ is a smooth chunky trip supported by neat 808 percussion, filtered synth stabs and some neat electronic flourishes. The sound design is unique and quirky, as you’d expect from Vadim. ‘Perun’s Dream’ is an altogether different affair, murky bass and lo-fi samples pepper the groove with space-echoed bursts drawing us in. Riff-wise it’s full of surprises, not least the windy analogue lead which prods the ever-expanding belly of 70’s prog hero Rick Wakeman.
